Charlottesville, VA -Auditions for Piedmont Virginia Community College Theatre and Phoenix Theatre's staged reading of I Shall Not Be Moved will be held Nov. 15 from 5-6 p.m. and Nov. 17 from 7-9 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre of the V. Earl Dickinson Building.
Auditions are open to all community members and no acting experience is required. Participants should come prepared to read from the script.
I Shall Not Be Moved, an original work by local author Leslie M. Baskfield and Christopher Baumer, recounts the story of Claudette Colvin, a lesser known but important figure in the Civil Rights Movement, and the first person arrested for resisting bus segregation in Montgomery, Alabama. Nine months previous to Rosa Parks' famous act of defiance, Colvin's refusal to give up her seat on a bus was a catalyst for change that led to a decision by the United States Supreme Court to end bus segregation in Alabama.
Performances of I Shall Not Be Moved are scheduled for Jan. 28 and 29, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. as part of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration.
