The following sources may be accessed through computers on campus or by current PVCC faculty, staff and students from off campus.

Journal Articles and Books
Literature Resource Center has critical analyses, biographical information and bibliographies of authors and their works.

Religion and Philosophy Collection provides articles on world religions, major denominations, biblical studies, religious history, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy.

EBSCO provides citations and abstracts or the full text of articles.

First Search has databases that can be searched for citations to journals and books.

Project Muse is a database with more than 300 full-text journals covering a wide range of topics, including literature, social science and religion.

Internet Resources

General Resources
Concise Dictionary of Religion by Irving Hexham contains more than four thousand definitions of religious concepts, as well as identifications of names, groups, places and important dates in the history of religious movements. The text is available here thanks to the efforts of Professor Jeffrey Hadden of the Sociology Department at the University of Virginia.

Virtual Religion Index, prepared by the Religion Department of Rutgers University, presents a wide range of information about world religions.

Buddhism
Buddhism describes the essential elements of Buddhism and includes important texts, a glossary and other information. Prepared by Paul V.M. Flesher for the University of Wyoming.

Tricycle is a quarterly magazine with an educational mission for Buddhism.

Bhavana Society is a Web site for the Bhavana Society, a Washington, D.C. group dedicated to the practice of Theravadan Buddhist meditation. The Web site describes their activities and their forest monastery and retreat center in West Virginia.

Christianity

The Bible, King James Version contains the Old and New Testaments, with the Apocrypha, from the Electronic Text Center of the University of Virginia.

Bible Gateway is an online search engine that enables users to search different versions of the Bible by word or by specific book/chapter/verse reference (e.g. Exod 3:1-2).

Saints Index from Catholic Online has a section to search or browse information about the saints.

Hinduism

Islam

Islamic Studies, the Web site of Dr. Alan Godlas, professor of Religion at the University of Georgia, provides a scholarly overview of Islam and related subjects.

The Koran is an electronically scanned version of M. H. Shakir's translation of the Holy Qur'an, as published by Tahrike Tarsile Qur'an, Inc. The electronic version is presented here in a searchable format by the University of Virginia.
