Internet Resources

General Law
Findlaw provides access to a wide range of Internet legal resources, including Supreme Court decisions, law reviews and state resources.

Federal Law
Legal Information Institute provides Supreme Court opinions under the auspices of Project Hermes, the court's electronic-dissemination project. The text of all decisions after May 1990 and 600 of the most important cases before 1990 may be searched by topic or party name.

Congressional Universe provides access to U.S. legislative information, including the full text of proposed legislation and its status. It has brief biographies of current members of Congress, including their contact information and committee memberships. The Web site has excellent search capability for public laws and the U.S. Code. Available through computers on campus or by current PVCC faculty, staff and students from off campus.

United States Code is a link to the most recent version of the United States Code made available by the U.S. House of Representatives. Search by the law's name, by browsing the list of 50 titles or by using a search engine.

U.S. Public Laws is a database of laws enacted for the 104th Congress (1995-96) to the 108th Congress, prepared and published by the Office of the Federal Register, National Archives and Records Administration.

U.S. Code of Federal Regulations is a codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the Executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government.

The Federal Judiciary has information about the federal courts, including a description of the various courts, statistical reports of judicial business and publications relating to the federal judiciary.

American Bar Association has consumer information under "Find Legal Help."

Virginia Law
Virginia Code offers access to the Statutory laws of Virginia. Search by phrase or by browsing the table of contents.

Virginia Administrative Code lists the rules of state agencies. Search by phrase or by browsing a list of titles and agencies.

Virginia State Bar has information about wills, marriage and purchasing a house as it relates to Virginia law in the Publications section. This Web site explains how to receive a referral to an attorney and how to file a complaint about a Virginia lawyer.
