Journal Articles and Books
EBSCO provides citations and abstracts or the full text of articles.
First Search has databases that can be searched for citations to journals and books. A database relevant to geography is GEOBASE.
Factiva allows searching of 6,000 full-text news and business publications by word or phrase and date.
Reference Works
Encyclopedia.com is a good resource for general information.
Dictionary of Geography explains terms used in both human and physical geography.
Internet Resources
CIA Publication links to the World Factbook, a comprehensive resource of facts and statistics for more than 250 countries.
Country Studies/Area Handbook Program covers 101 countries. Sponsored by the Department of the Army and prepared by the Library of Congress, books can be searched by individual country, by a combination of countries or by topic.
Portals to the World links to electronic resources around the world through the Library of Congress.
Nations of the World has links to constitutions, the full text of laws, regulations and court decisions for many countries. There are also links to general information, including the CIA-produced World Factbook, for many countries.
Governments on the WWW is a comprehensive database of governmental institutions, including parliaments, ministries, offices, law courts and embassies.
International Data Base is a computerized data bank created by the US Census Bureau that contains statistical tables of demographic and socio-economic data for 227 countries of the world.
Columbia Gazetteer of North America is an encyclopedia of geographical places and covers every incorporated place and county in the United States.
50states.com provides factual information about each state and its major cities.
BestPlaces.net has information about 3,000 U.S. cities. Topics include housing, cost of living, crime, education, economy, health and climate.
Geography from About.com has blank outline maps of the countries and continents of the world.
Worldtimeserver.com allows you to search by country or major city for the current time and date any place in the world.
Perry-Castaneda Library Map Collection has online maps of the world from the library at the University of Texas.
World Travel Guide contains helpful information for travelers. See current local weather for any city, along with general descriptions, historical information and other information especially useful for visitors.
TIGER Map Server from the U.S. Census Bureau provides access to maps all over the U.S. and allows you to choose features to display.
