VPN (Virtual Private Network)
Access For PVCC Faculty and Staff

We are proud to announce a new system which will allow PVCC faculty, staff, and administrators to access your networked files from home.

This requires a VPN Client to be installed on your Windows XP home computer, which will access our network through your existing Internet connection, usually a residential DSL or Cable Modem. For the best experience with VPN, Dial-up modem connections are not recommended. See special notes for use with dial-up modems, below. Information on VPN for Macintosh computers will be forthcoming.

The Jessup Library has VPN Client Installation Kits, an Installation CD and Instruction Booklet, available at the Circulation Desk for Faculty and Staff checkout.

Once you have installed the required software to your home computer, you establish a connection to the Internet via your normal Internet Service Provider. You will then run the VPN client which will allow you to connect to your account at PVCC (using your normal PVCCNET username and password.)

You will need to map a drive letter to your "My Documents" folder that resides on our network.

The following document may be viewed or printed for your reference.

Dial-up Modem notes:

For the best experience with VPN, Dial-up modem connections are not recommended, since the speed of connection is not conducive to opening files directly from the network folder. An alternative would be to copy the necessary file to the Desktop on your home computer, modify as necessary, and copy it back when finished. We will enhance this section as we acquire more information.
