Gregory has long been an element in PVCC's computing services, beginning in 1980 as a student part-time assistant for the college's first microcomputer lab (those computers had a whopping 8K RAM available, and one could program BASIC on it.) Those were the days of Keypunches, 8" floppy disks, and programming with line numbers. Computing has grown, and a lot has changed.
Gregory began full-time work at PVCC in 1984, after graduating Summa Cum Laude with an Associates Degree in Programming / Data Processing.
As an Instructional Assistant, Gregory prepared computer labs for instruction, and worked constantly with computer teaching faculty in providing excellent computer instruction on the equipment. Someone got the idea that computing shouldn't just be for computer people, and we developed courses and labs for word processing for English writing classes, spreadsheets for accounting students, CADD for architects, and digital imaging for photographers and graphic artists.
Instructional classrooms and labs are now plentiful, and Gregory has set up, configured, and networked many of them, under the work title of Installation and Repair Technician. As Network Manager, he provided security and account access to PCs, Novell Servers, and the college's in-house web server and intranet. Gregory now manages the Client Services arm of the IT department, and with a capable staff, provides Help Desk support service to the college community as we prepare ourselves for the future of educational computing.
