The annual Tech Tour, which took place this year on October 18, 2012, introduces hundreds of area middle and high school students to the dynamic, high-technology world that exists in the Charlottesville/Albemarle County region.
Sponsored by the Charlottesville Business Innovation Council with support from Piedmont Virginia Community College, this annual, day-long technology tour is designed to help students envision themselves as technology employees, professionals and entrepreneurs in the next wave of high-tech advancements. Students gather information about what it takes to prepare for a technology career and to learn about real job opportunities with local employers.
Students travel with classmates in groups of 12-15 to three of 50 tour sites. Companies host tours in which students meet employees and learn hands-on about the use of technology in unique and specialized operations.
Two $1,000 scholarships are offered to participating students, thanks to the generosity of sponsors. Scholarship recipients will be announced in spring 2013.
