Aquatic Instructor
Compensation: Hiring Salary $12.48-$20.00 per hour
Varied hours per week; varied working hours. Aquatic Instructor will teach a variety of aquatic classes at indoor and outdoor pool sites year round. Responsibilities include implementing a high quality of recreational programs for non-swimmers to competitive stroke conditioning, water aerobic exercise classes deep and shallow, and lifeguard instructor. Instruction may target all ages from infants to adults to seniors. Instructors will plan, initiate, organize and instruct class in an aquatic environment, explain and demonstrate activity techniques to participants; prepare instructional materials and supplies; responsible for keeping accurate records, time sheets and attendance, and for set-up and clean-up. Instructors must be able to demonstrate positive customer service skills when communicating with participants, parents and staff. Applicants must be at least 17 years old, have a valid driver's license and be able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays and weekends. Certifications include but are not limited to: Water Safety Instructor Certificate through the Red Cross or comparable experience; American Counsel of Exercise, Aquatic Exercise Association or comparable experience, and Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification. Compensation: Hiring salary range $10.52 - $10.80 per hour
Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Programs is currently seeking energetic, caring, and patient males and females for sub work with individuals with disabilities in various recreational settings. Responsibilities to include promoting social skills and safety awareness during all activities, supervising participants, and assisting with activity where there is a need. Duties could also include some driving, based on DMV driving record. Mostly weekend or evening work with typical activities to include day trips, overnights, special events, dances, etc. Prior experience with this population is desired. Graduation from high school or GED equivalency is required.
Pool Cashier
Compensation: $10.52 - $11.50 per hour
Hours will vary. Temporary, seasonal position. Pool Cashiers perform responsible clerical work receiving admission fees at the city pools; does relative work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Pool Supervisor. Position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience as a cashier. Applicants must have general knowledge of the operation of a cash register and ability to count money and to make change; ability to handle mathematical computations accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public and co-workers; ability to prepare records and routine statistical reports.
Seasonal Maintenance Worker II, Golf 09
Compensation: Hiring salary $10.52 per hour
30 to 40 hours per week, hours will vary. Maintenance Worker II positions are available in the Golf division. Applicants will perform a wide variety of tasks including (but not limited to): turf maintenance (mowing and trimming); maintenance of fairways and greens; landscape maintenance; tools and building maintenance. Must have the ability to work as part of a team. Positions may require applicants to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Experience in grounds maintenance is preferred. Applicants must have the ability to safely operate grounds maintenance equipment including mowers, string trimmers, spray machines and other standard tools and equipment used in the care and maintenance of parks, facilities and golf courses. The ability to perform strenuous manual labor, often under unfavorable conditions, including considerable walking, lifting, stooping, and carrying is required. The successful applicant must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalency and possess a valid Virginia driver's license.

Hours will vary substitute position The City is seeking substitute Lifeguards for the indoor pools. We require current Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate, CPR/PR and First Aid certifications; WSI certification is helpful. Applicants must have the ability to work with the public. Varied hours The Recreation Center Aide (Sub) fills in when the regular Center Supervisor is off duty. Responsibilities include: assisting with building maintenance, opening and closing recreation center, supervising participants utilizing the recreation center; enforcing center policies, maintaining order and calling Police when needed.
