General Statement:

Piedmont Virginia Community College invites applications for the position of Director of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO).  The CIO reports directly to the President and is a member of the college’s executive leadership team.  The CIO will provide strategy, vision, leadership, and advocacy for developing and implementing information technology (IT) initiatives that improve the effectiveness of all college services.  The CIO will lead in strategic planning, budgeting and implementation of information systems to support administrative, academic, and telecommunications operations.  The CIO will work closely with academic and administrative leaders and faculty in identifying and promoting opportunities for current and emerging technologies to support excellence in teaching and to improve services for students, faculty, and staff.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop vision and strategic plans for Information Technology applications to support and guide the college’s strategic plans.  Ensure that PVCC is on the cutting edge of technology application.
  • Prepare and manage information technology budget.
  • Procure, install and maintain all computer hardware and software and all other products and supplies necessary to keep computer systems operable and to fulfill requests for computer support.  Supervise staff who perform these tasks and provide “hands on” support as needed.
  • Maintain close contact with firms providing computer hardware, software and support service. Act as liaison between hardware and software suppliers and PVCC executive staff for informational updates and problem resolution.
  • Evaluate new equipment, software and processes continuously, recommend changes as appropriate, and supervise their installation.
  • Provide exceptional customer support for faculty, staff and student computing users.
  • Represent the college at the local, state and national level on IT issues.
  • Supervise a staff of 12 (7 full-time, 4 part-time, 1 administrative support)

Education and Work Experience:

Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field and significant IT experience, preferably in higher education.  Successful track record working with internal and external constituencies (including vendors) required.  Experience with PeopleSoft Student Information System or a similar product is desirable.

Knowledge and Skills:

This position requires skills in leadership; management; communications; and knowledge of best practices in networking, information systems, desktop support, process engineering and customer service.

This is a twelve-month administrative faculty appointment reporting to the President.

Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications in accordance with VCCS policy. 

Salary range is $80,000-95,000.
