PVCC graduates who achieve high grade point averages and those who participate in the Honors Program receive special recognition on their diplomas. Also, the achievements are noted on their PVCC transcripts.
Grade-Based Honors
To qualify for grade-based honors, you must graduate in a degree program and have earned a minimum of 33 credit hours or 50 percent of degree requirements at PVCC. Appropriate honors based upon a student's cumulative grade point average are awarded as follows:
- Summa cum laude (with highest honor) = 3.8 grade point average or higher
- Magna cum laude (with high honor) = 3.5 grade point average or higher
- Cum laude (with honor) = 3.2 grade point average or higher
Honors Program Graduates
To graduate with honors under PVCC's Honors Program, students must complete their regular degree requirements including a transfer math course in their curriculum(this does not have to be an honors class), complete a total of 15 credit hours in honors classes(marked with a 77 section number), and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Most of the required courses for a liberal arts degree are offered with honors sections, and students majoring in science, business administration, education, fine arts and general studies, among others, should have no difficulty taking enough honors courses to graduate with honors.
