Grants do not have to be repaid. They are awarded according to financial need. After you apply for financial aid and file the FASFA, PVCC's Financial Aid Office will automatically determine if you qualify for grants and will indicate this in your financial aid award letter.
Federal Pell Grant:
Pell Grants are need-based federal student aid. Only undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree are eligible for this grant. The Pell Grant is awarded using your family's Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA. Awards are also based on the number of credit hours you take.
Academic Competitiveness Grant:
This federal, need-based financial aid program awards up to $750 for the first year of undergraduate study and up to $1,300 for the second year of undergraduate study to full-time students who are U.S. citizens. You must meet eligibility requirements for a Federal Pell Grant and have successfully completed a rigorous high school program, as determined by the state or local education agency and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. If you are a second-year student, you must have maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. The Academic Competitiveness Grant is awarded in addition to a Pell Grant award. For more information about eligibility, please visit the Academic Competitiveness Grant page on the Department of Education Web site.
