Apply now for the PVCC Engineering Summer Academy!
To
respond to the increasing need for engineers, Piedmont Virginia Community College is offering a new
Associate's of Science (A.S.) degree in
Engineering. The new program allows PVCC students to complete the
requirements for the first two years of an engineering degree and then transfer
to a four-year engineering program to complete a Bachelor's degree. As a result
of this new program, three guaranteed admissions agreements with specific
engineering schools are now in place, with more being developed. Students who
graduate from the engineering
program at PVCC are now guaranteed admission to the College of Engineering at
Virginia Tech, the College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion
University, and the School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University, assuming they have met the requirements specified in the
admission agreements. In the near future, an additional guaranteed admission
agreement with the University of Virginia is
anticipated. In addition, all PVCC engineering courses have been approved for transfer
by these four universities.
For more information about how courses transfer to the respective engineering
schools, check out the transfer
link. (Click here to learn
about different types engineering degrees and what you can do with them.)

The new strategic vision for
the PVCC engineering program enabled the college to receive a significant grant
from the National Science Foundation (NSF) of nearly $500,000. The NSF STEP
grant (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Talent Expansion Program)
has made it possible for PVCC to bolster the program even more by
upgrading engineering facilities and by hiring a Program Liaison to help meet
the needs of engineering students. The grant also supports the creation of new
services and activities for current and potential engineering students at PVCC.
