Fall Graduation: The deadline for submitting an Application for Graduation is Friday, October 30, 2009.
NEW!!! PVCC has done away with paper!! Graduation applications are now submitted online only. When submitting an application, Exit Surveys will also be completed and submitted.
Commencement Ceremony
PVCC has one commencement ceremony each spring for the academic year. The ceremony is held outdoors on the lawn of PVCC's campus, weather permitting. The public is invited to attend.
In Case of Inclement Weather
PVCC encourages participants and their guests to pay careful attention to local weather forecasts. In the event of inclement weather, participants and guests should call 434.977.3900 or check www.pvcc.edu for special instructions about a change in venue. The absence of any special announcement indicates that the ceremony will go on as scheduled.
Requirements to Graduate
If you are eligible for graduation after having met all requirements and having completed a curriculum sheet for your program, submit a completed graduation application before your final semester but no later than the deadlines posted.
Graduation requirements, including the number of credits required for associate degrees and certificates, are detailed in the current PVCC Catalog. Participation in PVCC's commencement ceremony does not denote official certification of a degree or certificate. Your graduation will be official only after all curriculum requirements have been met and documented by PVCC's Welcome Center.
Honor Cords at PVCC Graduation
Gold honor cords are awarded to all students who have earned the Cum Laude (3.2 GPA), Magna Cum Laude (3.5 GPA), or Summa Cum Laude (3.8 GPA) distinction. Because of time restraints with final grades, this cumulative GPA does not include the grades earned in the final spring semester prior to graduation. The honor cords will be distributed to those students being honored on graduation night before the ceremony. This tradition enables us to single out in a special way those students who through hard work and perseverance were able to excel.
Ordering Your Cap and Gown
You will receive a letter in early April with details about what you need to do in order to participate in graduation. After receiving this letter, you should order your cap and gown from the PVCC Bookstore.
Your Diploma
PVCC orders student diplomas approximately one month after the commencement ceremony. You will receive your diploma by mail 8-10 weeks after it has been ordered. Diplomas will be mailed to the address indicated on the Application for Graduation form. If this address changes, please notify Jeannie Perutelli in the Welcome Center.
Graduation Announcements
PVCC provides each graduate with 10 free graduation announcements available from PVCC's Cashier's Office located in room 237 in the Main Building. Additional announcements may be purchased for a nominal fee.
Proof of Graduation
If you need proof of graduation, please request an official transcript. Allow up to two weeks after your graduation date for your transcript to reflect your completed degree or certificate. The transcript will be mailed to you.
Line-Up Time for Graduates
Graduates need to check in by 4 p.m. at the South entrance of the Main Building (near Littlejohn's Deli). Please do not bring personal belongings with you. There is no storage space available. Cell phones must be turned off during the line-up procedure.
