The mission of The Center for Excellence in Instruction is to enhance teaching and learning, and increase student success through ongoing support and development of the faculty.
The Center for Excellence in Instruction is dedicated to working with faculty to:
- Develop a culture that values and rewards excellence in teaching and scholarship;
- Recognize and support individual differences among learners, acknowledging that faculty are themselves diverse, lifelong learners;
- Connect faculty to provide a network for sharing classroom strategies and professional development projects;
- Foster innovation in teaching and learning;
- Identify promising models for instruction;
- Nurture scholarship as vital to effective teaching.
The Center for Excellence in Instruction accomplishes this mission by:
- Providing space for faculty to study, exchange ideas, learn about and experiment with effective methods of teaching and learning;
- Providing individualized training for the integration of instructional technology into courses;
- Informing faculty of new and upcoming teaching practices and technology advancements through forums, workshops, training programs and publications;
- Providing professional development resources such as pedagogical journals, discipline-specific texts, and software and multimedia tools for course content development.
Overview
The Center for Excellence in Instruction is located in the Jessup Library. The Center is staffed full-time and currently offers the following for our faculty and staff:
- 10 computers including zip drives and CD rewritable/recordable drives; 3 scanners; 2 laser printers including 1 color printer;
- Multimedia applications such as Adobe Acrobat, Camtasia, FrontPage, Macromedia Breeze, Photoshop, PowerPoint and Producer;
- 1 recording room with USB microphone podcasting kit;
- Video technology including digital camera, and editing software;
- One-on-one and small group instructional technology training;
- Reading library;
- Information center for professional development and instructional design.
Guidelines
- Equipment in the Center is for PVCC-related work only.
- Current PVCC employees and Adjunct faculty preparing for an upcoming semester may use the Center.
Hours
The Center for Excellence in Instruction is open during regular college hours, Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. [During off-hours, the Center may be opened by the pad lock combination.]
