Great Expectations Program for Foster Youth

Foster Youth + PVCC = Perfect Match!

PVCC's Great Expectations program is a statewide program that helps current and former foster youth between the ages of 13 and 24 in Central Virginia to gain access to a community college education and transition successfully to living independently.

Using PVCC resources and working with community agencies and individuals, Great Expectations serves 40 to 50 students annually with a full menu of academic, career and support services. The program has an advisory board with representatives from social service and other agencies and individuals who have a passion for the welfare of foster youth.

Participants will:

  • Receive guidance in making choices on college and/or career
  • Learn about PVCC's support services (Admissions and Records, Financial Aid, and Counseling)
  • Get connected with community resources and services
  • Attend monthly social's
  • Have the opportunity to tour Virginia College campus's
  • Get emergency assistance services
  • And much more!
