"I’ve taught at PVCC since 2010 and at the college level since 2004. Though I focus mostly on writing and literature, I’ve also designed a class about body image and another about American food culture. Before switching to classroom teaching, I tutored students in SAT/ACT prep, study skills, and the college application process. I’m passionate about teaching, and what I love most is watching students discover that writing doesn’t have to be boring. My hobbies include hot yoga, hiking, dining out or seeing live music with my husband, and walking my two sweet Beagles."
I have been in education for 15 years, with positions that range from high school to college, and from the classroom to text books. I have been with PVCC for 2 years, and thoroughly enjoy both the atmosphere and academic rigor offered here. When I’m not solving problems, I play music. A lot of music. I front a band that has toured up and down the East Coast (though now having two kids, regional activity is about as far as I make it).
I coordinate academic support services at PVCC, and I am committed to helping students achieve their educational and vocational goals. I have enjoyed working with college students--particularly those who are the first in the families to attend a college or university--at some of the best institutions in the country. I believe PVCC provides exceptional academic programs and support services and serves as a spring board for students seeking to gain meaningful employment or transfer to a four-year school. I live in nearby Augusta County and enjoy cheering for my son's high school sports teams, hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway, volunteering in my community, and participating in competition barbecue.
I’m a Student Success Advisor which means I help students work towards their goals and find ways to manage everything life may throw at them. As the first person in my family to go to college, I want to guide students along the way so they don’t get lost like I often was! When I’m not outside hiking or camping, I can be found chowing down in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant or relaxing in a coffee shop with my husband and two sons.
I’m a Student Success Advisor, which in short means I try to help people discover and reach their goals. I have a lot of interests such as camping, art, listening to or playing music, and spending time with my dog, family, and friends. I think life and the different ways in which we all experience it is infinitely interesting. I look forward to having some fun experiences with you this summer if you decide to join us!
As Coordinator of Student Success, I've been at PVCC for fifteen years and love working deeply with students (and staff and faculty) to help them overcome obstacles, grow, and get the most out of their educational experiences. Many years ago I struggled in high school, then later briefly dropped out of college, and needed eighteen years before feeling ready to go back for a Counseling degree. I am married with one son and I co-advise the PVCC Community garden, love to read, hike, cook and eat!
