Great Expectations

If you are a foster care youth or alumni of the foster care system and between the ages of 13-24, the Great Expectations program at PVCC is perfect for you because through this program your community college education is free. Our Great Expectations Counselor will assist you throughout the entire process from application, financial aid and registering for classes, right through referrals for addressing special needs or barriers that may arise through your college experience.

Get started by following the enrollment steps below.

checkbox APPLY NOW!STEP 1:  SUBMIT AN ONLINE APPLICATION
              TO PVCC.
Apply online now using the Virginia Community College System's application. After completing your application, you will receive a student ID number and username on your confirmation page. Print this page or write down this information for your records.

See instructions on completing the application.

Request help with the online application for admission.

The enrollment process at PVCC involves a series of steps and decisions that are necessary to ensure your success as a student. In order for us to serve your needs, we recommend that you make an appointment to discuss your goals and individual situation. Great Expectations' mission is to help you meet your educational goals and provide the support you need to succeed at PVCC.

checkbox STEP 3:  APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID.
PVCC Financial Aid
Main Building, Rm. M136

When you meet with our Great Expectations Counselor, you will receive help applying for financial aid. Financial aid may come in the form of grants, scholarships, loans and work-study positions, which will pay for your education at a community college. There is even a special grant just for foster youth.

The first step is to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. PVCC's Great Expectations Counselor will help you fill out this form, or you can do it yourself.

checkbox STEP 4:  SEND OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS.
This is only necessary if you want to receive transfer credit for previously completed college coursework obtained outside the Virginia Community College System. Only students applying or entering allied health programs (i.e., nursing, surgical technology, emergency medical services, sonography or radiography) need to send high school transcripts.

In order to have your previous college credits evaluated for transfer to PVCC, please send your official academic transcripts from the previous colleges and the completed Transcript Evaluation Request Form to the mailing address below. If you attended another Virginia community college and want to receive transfer credit at PVCC, the completed Transcript Evaluation Request Form is still required, but we do not need an official transcript.
