Many high schools in the Central Virginia area offer dual-enrollment classes on-site during the regular school day. In these classes offered at your school, you can earn credit for high school and PVCC at the same time, and the credits you earn may transfer to other colleges and universities. Most high schools will even pay for the tuition cost of the class. At the end of the class, you receive a letter grade, which will appear on your high school transcript as a college-level class. View a list of dual-enrollment classes. Please also view the dual-enrollment handbook for students.

The following area schools offer dual-enrollment:

  • Albemarle County High School
  • Blue Ridge School
  • Charlottesville High School
  • Fluvanna County High School
  • Fork Union Military Academy
  • Louisa County High School
  • Monticello High School
  • Nelson County High School
  • United Christian Academy
  • Western Albemarle High School (dual-enrollment only)
  • William Monroe High School

Dual enrollment is restricted to high school juniors and seniors and home school students studying at the high school junior or senior levels. Because enrolling freshman and sophomore students is considered exceptional, each freshman and sophomore student will be treated on a case-by-case basis. Formal approval by the college president and documentation of parental permission are required. All students admitted under this section must demonstrate readiness for college by achieving satisfactory scores on college placement tests and address all other college admission criteria.

How to Enroll in Dual-Enrollment Classes
Please make sure to talk with your high school counselor and your parents to let them know about your interest in dual enrollment. After meeting with your counselor follow these four steps. If you have questions along the way, please e-mail PVCC's Dual Enrollment Specialist or call 434.961.6556.

  1. Apply to PVCC. After completing your online application, you will receive an EmplID number on the confirmation page. Please have this number available as you complete the registration process.
  2. Take placement tests. Most high schools in the Central Virginia area offer these tests on-site, so ask your high school counselor about them. If your high school does not administer the placement tests, you may take them at the PVCC Learning Center free of charge.
  3. Meet with your high school counselor to review your placement test scores. Your high school counselor will then register you. Please make sure that you have your parent sign the dual-enrollment form that will be given to you on your first day of class and turn that back into your school.
  4. Verify Registration by logging into MyPVCC to look at your unofficial transcript. The classes you are enrolled in should be listed here. If not please speak to your high school counselor.
