Dual credit classes meet on campus at PVCC and through them you earn credit for high school and PVCC at the same time. These classes help you get a head start on college-level work. Either you or your high school pays for the cost of the class, depending on the arrangement with your school. At the end of the class, you will receive a letter grade, which will appear on your high school transcript as a college-level class.

How to Enroll in Dual Credit Classes
Follow the steps below. If you have questions along the way, e-mail PVCC's Dual Enrollment Specialist or call 434.961.6556.

  1. Download the High School Student Permission Form.
  2. Obtain appropriate signatures needed on the High School Student Permission Form (including parent or legal guardian and high school principal or counselor).
  3. Apply to PVCC. After completing your online application, you will receive an EmplID number on the confirmation page. Please have this number available as you complete the registration process.
  4. Obtain your official high school transcript through the guidance office at your high school if you will be attending PVCC full time.
  5. Send your official high school transcript and your completed High School Student Permission Form to:

    PVCC-Welcome Center
    Dual Enrollment Specialist
    501 College Drive
    Charlottesville, VA 22902

  6. Take placement tests. Please click here to determine need for placement testing. Most high schools in the Central Virginia area offer these tests on-site, so ask your guidance counselor about them. If your high school does not administer the placement tests, you may take them at the PVCC Learning Center free of charge.
  7. Meet with PVCC's Dual Enrollment Specialist to review your placement test scores, transcripts and program of study. To make an appointment, e-mail the Dual Enrollment Specialist, or call 434.961.6556.
  8. Register for classes. The Dual Enrollment Specialist will assist you in the registration process. (Note: If you take dual credit classes, you must meet with the Dual Enrollment Specialist before registering each semester. Be sure to make your appointment well in advance of registration start dates. View registration start dates on the Academic Calendar)
  9. Pay tuition and fees through MyPVCC or set up automatic payments through Nelnet (if your school is not paying for the classes) . When you register for classes, the Student Information System will indicate how much you owe. Contact the Help Desk if you have difficulty using any of PVCC's online services.
  10. If necessary, purchase textbooks from the PVCC Bookstore or PVCC's Used Book Web site. PVCC's Bookstore is located in the Main Building.

If you are a student with a disability, please click here for information on PVCC's disability services.
