Distance Learning (Online)

The instructional design and technology department is committed to working with instructors to develop high quality courses designed to enhance student content knowledge.  Online education is combined with current technologies to develop effective web-enriched courses.  These online courses allow PVCC to offer both faculty and students innovative educational opportunities.  The instructional design and technology department supports both students and faculty in both traditional and online classes.
PVCC hosts a number of distance learning courses where students are not required to physically come to campus to complete the courses.  These distance learning courses accommodate all students no matter their schedule or obligations. Distance learning courses at PVCC have been designed to facilitate a community of learners and foster a high level of educational development.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is distance learning and online education?

Distance learning courses are offered online through the Internet and are not physically held on our main campus or at the PVCC Eugene Giuseppe Center in Greene County or at the PVCC Jefferson School Center in downtown Charlottesville. At PVCC, all courses are considered to have pieces of online education since PVCC uses Blackboard as a course management system through which course content is delivered and grades are posted.

What are the technical requirements for distance learning?

Click the link below to determine if your computer meets the proper technical requirements to use Blackboard. Please note that PVCC strongly recommends that when accessing Blackboard, you use Firefox or Google Chrome as your web browser rather than Internet Explorer.
