Credit for Experience

Academic credit for work experience, completed noncredit courses, life experiences, and other nontraditional learning experiences may be granted at PVCC if you are enrolled in a PVCC program of study and can demonstrate that the experience or training is equivalent to the content and learning outcomes for classes in your selected program of study.

Credit awarded for prior learning does not meet the "credit hours in residence" requirement for PVCC graduation and credit received through prior learning is not usually transferable to other colleges and universities.

Credit by Local Exam

Credit by local exam is available for these  PVCC Advanced Standing Courses.

See PVCC’s policy for  Credit for Nontraditional Learning.

College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP)

The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for knowledge you have acquired through independent study, prior course work, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships by earning qualifying scores on examinations. Required scores and PVCC equivalent courses can be found in  PVCC Course Equivalencies for CLEP Examinations.

Advanced Placement Examinations

Advanced Placement (AP) examinations enable high school students to receive college course credit.  AP scores and course equivalencies are listed here.
